Hanoi (VNA) –Fishermen must be treated humanely and force or a threat to use force against fishermenmust not be used, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said at a regularpress conference on October 12.

She made the remark regarding a naval ship ofthe Philippines shooting at a fishing boat from Vietnam’s central province ofPhu Yen, killing two fishermen in September.

She stressed that: “We demand the Philippines promptlyinvestigate the incident, clarify responsibility and strictly handle personswith violations. It should notify Vietnam of the investigation outcomes soonwhile having appropriate apologies and compensating fishermen for human andproperty losses.”

Vietnam has also recognised the Philippine side’scooperation in this issue so far, Hang added.-VNA
