First Vietnam Coffee Day slated for December

Hanoi (VNA) – Da Lat city of the CentralHighlands province of Lam Dong will host the first Vietnam Coffee Day onDecember 9-11, announced Pham S, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee at a press conference held on November 14.

It is viewed as an opportunity for Vietnameselocalities and businesses to promote their products to domestic andinternational consumers, raising the values of Vietnamese goods in theinternational market.

An international conference on the development ofVietnam’s coffee sector is scheduled to be held at the event, focusing on branddevelopment, coffee processing and investment, coffee policies in domestic andinternational markets.

[Lam Dong to host first Vietnam Coffee Day]

December 10 is designated as Vietnam Coffee Day tomark the great contributions made by the coffee industry to the country’sdevelopment.

Coffee was first cultivated in Vietnam in 1857. To date,Vietnam’s coffee growing areas reached 20,000ha. The country exports 1.8million tonnes of coffee beans, raking in 3.2 billion USD per year. Vietnam iscurrently the world’s second largest coffee exporter, after Brazil.

Lam Dong boasts coffee areas of nearly 150,240ha andan output of about 430,000 tonnes per year.-VNA
