Dak Nong commune shares a 10km border with Laos. It consists of nine hamletswith 3,800 people, mostly from the ethnic group of Gie Trieng.
After five years, all the hamlets have access to electricity and essential infrastructuresuch as transport and irrigation works and schools. The ratio of poorhouseholds fell to 6.2 percent.
Inaddition, the commune will facilitate the locals to access bank loans andmobilise resources to support the locals’ production while accelerating technologytransfer and providing vocational training courses.
To date, Kon Tum province has 13 new-style rural communes and it targets 25communes receiving the status by 2020.
The national programme on building new-style rural areas, initiated by theGovernment in 2010, includes 19 criteria on socio-economic development,politics and defence, aiming to boost rural areas of Vietnam.
The criteria cover infrastructure development, production capacity improvement,environmental protection and cultural value promotion.-VNA
