First anniversary of ASEAN Culture House in RoK marked

The first anniversary of ASEAN Culture House (ACH) was held on September 14 in Busan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), with a wide range of cultural activities.

Seoul (VNA) - The first anniversaryof ASEAN Culture House (ACH) was held on September 14 in Busan, the Republic ofKorea (RoK), with a wide range of cultural activities.

An exhibition entitled Playful ASEAN introduced tovisitors traditional games of member countries of the Association of SoutheastAsian Nations (ASEAN).

ACH was established last year under the KoreaFoundation (KF) as a friendly cultural exchange platform between the RoK andASEAN countries to promote enhanced cultural familiarity while allowingvisitors to enjoy all that ASEAN culture has to offer.

Since opening its doors, ACH has been constantlyworking to establish open communication with residents, students, multiculturalfamilies and specialists of each academic sphere.

ACH aims to provide a platform for the bilateralexchange of culture and human resources between the RoK and the ASEAN countriesin light of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN’s establishment.

Over the past year, a variety of projects filledthe schedule, including lectures introducing ASEAN society and culture,performances, culture workshops and exchange programmes for multiculturalfamilies from ASEAN, and much more.

These efforts have produced a betterunderstanding of ASEAN culture with more than 20,000 people, including bothKoreans and political and social figures from abroad, taking part.

ACH Director Ham Seung-hoon said the RoKgovernment considers ASEAN an important partner in its New Southern Policy asthe bloc is the second biggest trade partner of the RoK and a favoritedestination for Korean holidaymakers.

ACH will continue connecting cultures of the RoKand ASEAN through more diverse and profound programmes, he said.-VNA
