Seoul (VNA) - A fire broke out ona vessel with 10 Vietnamese on board in waters off Tongyeong city in theRepublic of Korea (RoK)’s southern province of Gyeongnam, at around 3.50 am on September11, according to the Korea Coast Guard.
The commander of the vessel appealed for urgent helpfrom the maritime traffic control centre.
All 60 crew members, comprising 49 Koreannationals, 10 Vietnamese, and one Italian, were evacuated on a tugboat about 12minutes after the fire broke out.
None suffered serious injuries but seven werehospitalised with smoke inhalation.
The Tongyeong coast guard deployed 16 ships andhelicopters to put out the flames.
The fire began when crew members were layingsubmarine cables connecting Busan city with Jeju Island.
The Korea Coast Guard is investigating the causeof the fire, which is believed to have started near the engine room./.
