Export of aquatic products earns 1.5 billion USD in first quarter

Vietnam earned 537 million USD from the export of aquatic products in March, bringing the total figure of the year’s first three months to 1.5 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 3.6 percent.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam earned 537 million USD fromthe export of aquatic products in March, bringing the total figure of theyear’s first three months to 1.5 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 3.6percent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Leading markets for Vietnamese seafood are Japan, the US, China and theRepublic of Korea (RoK), while the highest surge was seen in the Brazilianmarket with 67.6 percent, followed by the Netherlands with 55.6 percent, Japanwith 28.5 percent and Canada 24.3 percent.

Imports of aquatic product were valued at 306 million USD in the period, up 30percent compared to the same period last year.

Prices of Tra fish in the first quarter increased due to a decline insupply while businesses stepped up buying materials to fill their export ordersin early 2017.

Meanwhile, shrimp supplywas tightened while the demand of processor was on the rise, leading toincreases in prices. – VNA
