Activities were held in Australia by the Vietnam Consulate General in the city of Perth to mark the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

The events, held in the cities of Darwin and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia on September 2 and 4, were designed to boost cooperation between the two countries.

Willem Rudolf Westra van Holthe, Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory of Australia, emphasised the efforts made by the two sides to make Vietnam and the Northern Territory important partners in economics, trade, investment, livestock and animal meat processing.

Addressing the ceremony in Darwin, Consul General Le Viet Duyen said Vietnam’s strong growth in recent years was partly bolstered by the Vietnam - Australia comprehensive partnership in which the Northern Territory is one of the localities with the closest relationship to Vietnam.

Duyen said the Northern Territory signed agreements on local cooperation with HCM City, Hai Phong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau and hoped the region would deepen its ties with Vietnam.

In Alice Springs, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory of Australia Adam Giles highly appreciated Vietnam and its people’s recent achievements and wished the Northern Territory and Alice Springs in particular would expand their cooperation with the Southeast Asian nation in the future.

Damien Ryan, Mayor of Alice Springs, urged Alice Springs to develop a friendly relationship with a Vietnamese city with similar conditions.

On the occasion, Duyen and leaders of the Northern Territory attended an opening ceremony of a showroom room for exported Vietnamese products.-VNA
