Endangered monkey sent to Cuc Phuong national park

The Department of Forest Management of Quang Ngai province is working to hand over a grey-shanked douc langur to the Endangered Primate Rescue Center in Cuc Phuong national park.

The one-year-old monkey,weighing roughly one kilogramme, was found in a forest between QuangNgai and the neighbouring province of Kon Tum by a local from Ba Todistrict.

He then handed over the monkey to forest protection authorities on July 2.

The grey-shanked douc (Pygathrix cinerea) is native to the centralprovinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh and the CentralHighlands provinces of Kon Tum and Gia Lai.

It is listed in Vietnam’s Red Book of threatened and endangered species.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s PrimateSpecialist Group rates the grey-shanked douc as one of the world’s 25most endangered monkeys.-VNA
