Kula Lumpur (VNA) – A delegation from the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia has visited the 86 Vietnamese fishermen being detained in the eastern Malaysian state of Sarawak.
The delegation briefed the fishermen on the policy of the Party and the State as well as their return procedures.
They also worked with the authorities of the detention camp on measures to bring 57 out of the 86 fisherman home before the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival which will begin on February 7.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Pham Cao Phong presented gifts to the fishermen and called on them to observe the laws of Vietnam and other nations, including the host country.
He pledged to accelerate the procedures for the last 29 to go home as soon as possible.
The Ambassador also called for better communication to raise the public awareness of international law, domestic laws and regulations, particularly among fishermen working offshore in other nations’ waters.-VNA
