Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNA) – Rescue forces have found 11 alive sailors and the bodies oftwo others after their Panama-flagged cargo ship sank near Phu Quy island, offshore the south central province of Binh Thuan, lateDecember 17.
The rescuedsailors were brought to a port in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau in the morning of December 19 by ship 6007 of theCommand of the Coast Guard Zone 3.
Two remainingsailors on the ship are still missing.
The Xin Hongcargo ship with 15 crew members, 11 Chinese and four Vietnamese, on boardcapsized in rough seas off Vietnam on December 17 while transporting 7,800tonnes of clay from Malaysia to Hong Kong.
The ship’scaptain had contacted Vietnam for help earlier on the day when it began to listin rough seas.
The BinhThuan Border Guard High Command sent a rescue team to the waters.
The coordinatingcentre for maritime search and rescue Region III is working with Binh Thuanauthorities to instruct vessels operating in the waters where the Xin Hong wasin distress to search for the remaining two missing sailors./.
