Jakarta (VNA) –Indonesia authorities on August 12 announced that a plane carrying sevenpassengers and two crew members crashed at remote mountainous area in theeastern part of the country, killing eight people.
The only survivor is a12-year-old boy passenger.
The Swiss-made Pilatus lostcontact with the air traffic control station on August 11 while making a flightlasting 40 minutes in Papua province. After over 2 hours going on foot, rescueforces found the plane in a thick forest in Oksibil together with eight bodieson August 12 morning.
Lt. Col. Dax Sianturi, aspokesman of the Indonesian military, said the cause of the crash has not beendetermined and the country’s national traffic safety committee will launch aninvestigation into the incident.
Planes are the main means oftransport of Indonesian people, shuttling among thousands of islands. However,poor safety is blamed as the main cause of many crashes in recent years.-VNA
