Hanoi (VNA) – A 5.4 magnitudeearthquake rocked the Philippines’ southern province of Zamboanga del Norte onJanuary 7.
According to the Philippine Institute ofVolcanology and Seismology, the centre of the quake was 35km deep in the Zamboangadel Norte town of Baliguian, on the Zamboanga peninsular in Mindanao.
Locals in Zamboanga city felt the quake.
Earlier the same day, a magnitude 6.6earthquake jolted a region about 174km west-northwest of Ternate city in the Moluccasof Indonesia.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake hit at a depth of 60.5 km.
Currently, experts have yet to define if thereis any connection between the two quakes. –VNA
