Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime MinisterTrinh Dinh Dung has urged relevant units to complete a feasibility report onthe construction of the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport inthe southern province of Dong Nai as soon as possible.
The report must be built based on carefulcalculation of the domestic and international demand for air transport in the neighbouringHo Chi Minh City, he said.
The project must ensuresafety, quality, and economic efficiency as well as defence-security,environmental protection, and thrift, he stressed, adding the Dong Naiprovincial People’s Committee must focus on land clearance to ensure theprogress of the project.
The Ministry of Transport was tasked tocoordinate with the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises toguide investors and consultancy agencies to complete the report forpresentation at the National Assembly’s session in October 2019.
Long Thanh International Airport has a totalarea of more than 5,580 ha, spreading across six communes in Long ThanhDistrict, the southern province of Dong Nai. It is set to have a totalinvestment of 336.63 trillion VND (14.8 billion USD), with construction dividedinto three phases.
In the first phase, a runway and a passengerterminal, along with other supporting works, will be built to serve some 25million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year. This phase ishoped to be finished by 2025.
In the second phase, an additional runway andpassenger terminal will be constructed to serve 50 million passengers and 1.5million tonnes of cargo per year.
After the third phase, the airport will be ableserve 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo annually. –VNA
