Hanoi (VNA) - A 280-member delegation from the Democratic People’sRepublic of Korea (DPRK) including 229 cheer-team members and 26 taekwondodemonstrators arrived in the Republic of Korea (RoK) on February 7 toparticipate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, reported Yonhap news agency.
The delegation, headed by DPRK Sports Minister Kim Il-guk, also includes fourofficials from the National Olympic Committee and 21 journalists.
Meanwhile,a high-ranking delegation of the DPRK led by Parliament Head Kim Yong-nam isscheduled to pay a three-day official visit to the RoK starting February 9.According to the agenda, Kim Yong-nam will attend the opening ceremony of the2018 PyeongChang Olympics and a match of the unified Korean women’s hockey team,as well as a performance of the DPRK’s art delegation.
OnFebruary 6, the Mangyongbong 92 ship carrying 140 members of the DPRK’s SamjiyonOrchestra docked at the Mukho port of the RoK. The orchestra is slated to performin the southern Gangneun city and Seoul capital of the RoK on February 8 and11, respectively.
TheDPRK asked for oil supplies after the ship arrived and the RoK was reviewingthe request, spokesman of the RoK’s Unification Ministry Baik Tae-hyun said onFebruary 7. The vessel is also being used to accommodate the art delegation.
TheDPRK and RoK athletes and officials will march together at the opening ceremonyof the Winter Games, the fourth time at Olympics, on February 9.-VNA
