Illustrative image (Source: VNA)Hanoi (VNA) – Prices of key domestic farm products fluctuated in August, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Cashew nut saw the highest price hike due to surging demand for processing and high import prices. The price of dried cashew nut in the southern province of Binh Phuoc increased by 1,500 VND (0.067 USD) to 45,500 VND (2.047 USD) per kilogramme.
In contrast, the price of black peppercorn registered an average month-on-month decrease of 8,000 VND (0.36 USD) per kilogramme, ranging from 156,700 VND (7.05 USD) to 165,500 VND (7.44 USD) per kilogramme in key growing areas of Gia Lai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Dak Lak, and Dong Nai provinces.
The rice price in the Mekong Delta experienced abnormal changes because the domestic rice market received no orders from both traditional and other markets.
Indonesia confirmed no rice imports in 2016 while the Philippines has not yet affirmed the plan to import 250,000 tonnes of rice. China, the biggest rice importer of Vietnam, continues to tighten management on rice imports across the border.
The past severe drought and saltwater intrusion were also attributed to the rice price hike.
The rice price in An Giang was kept stable at 4,400 VND (0,198 USD) per kilogramme in the first haft of August, but increased by 100 VND per kilogramme from August 15.
The coffee price in Central Highland provinces rose by 500 VND per kg to 38,600 VND (1.73 USD).
Meanwhile, the tea price in the northern province of Thai Nguyen continued to be stable in comparison with the previous month, standing between 100,000 VND (4.5 USD) and 180,000 VND (8.1 USD) per kilogramme.
The price of vegetables in some northern provinces also increased in August as a result of storms.-VNA
