Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s diplomatic sector made great contributionsto maintaining peace and stability, serving development and increasing thecountry’s position in 2017.

The statement was heard at the Foreign Ministry’s conferenceto review its work in 2017 and set forth orientations and tasks for 2018.

Participants agreed that 2017 was considered one of the mostsuccessful years in terms of foreign relations. Relations with important andprioritised partners, especially neighbouring and big ones, developed in adeep, stable and sustainable manner.

Notably, the success of the APEC Year 2017 contributed to confirmingthe role of Vietnam’s multilateral diplomacy.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and ForeignMinister Pham Binh Minh said that the regional and global situations continueto develop complicatedly in 2018.

Therefore, the inclusive and most important task of thesector is to continue maintaining the peaceful and stable environment, attractmore resources to serve sustainable development, safeguard the nation’ssovereignty and territorial integrity, and improve the position and strength ofthe nation, Minh stated.

This year, the foreign ministry will work to create afavourable environment for development and international integration.-VNA
