Addressing the event on May 22, Roberto de Luise, Under Secretary ofInternational Affairs of the Argentinean ministry, highlightedsimilarities between the two countries’ struggles for nationalindependence and rejoiced to hear that the 60th anniversary of Dien BienPhu victory was organised successfully in the context of theflourishing ties between the two sides.
Participants heardpresentations by Ezequiel Ramoneda, Coordinator of the Southeast AsiaResearch Centre under the National University of La Plata, and AlexianeBloch, a French historical expert, on the historical situation of Franceat the time of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
Director ofArgentina’s Cienflores publishing house Maximiliano Thibaut praised therole played by late General Vo Nguyen Giap in the triumph which shookthe world and led to the end of French colonialism in the threeIndochinese countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
TheInstitute’s Chairman, Poldi Sosa, emphasised the importance of thelogistical work to the victory, while other speakers agreed that theDien Bien Phu victory provides forceful evidence of the power ofVietnam’s all-people war strategy.
On the occasion, adocumentary film on the victory was screened, providing participantswith an insight on the art of war of Vietnam.-VNA
