Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minhhosted a reception in Hanoi on June 21 for former US Secretary of State JohnKerry who is on a two-day working visit to Vietnam.

Minhspoke highly of Kerry’s efforts and contributions Vietnam-US relations over thepast decades in his capacity as both Secretary of State and Senator, as well ashis continued special attention to Vietnam.

TheDeputy PM briefed his guest on the current situation of Vietnam-US ties,including the outcomes of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s recent visit to theUS, and affirmed his support for the early operation of the FulbrightUniversity Vietnam.

Hewelcomed the connection between the university’s training programmes withVietnam’s sectors with high demands such as engineering, aerospace and cybersecurity as well as proposals to minimise climate change impacts in the country.

Minhsuggested Kerry continue supporting Vietnam-US cooperative ties, especially ineconomy, trade, investment, education, science-technology, overcoming waraftermaths and response to climate change.

Forhis part, Kerry said he will continue exerting efforts for the development ofVietnam-US ties, especially in areas benefiting the Vietnamese people.

Hethanked the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam for supporting the establishment of theFulbright University Vietnam, expressing his belief that the university willcontribute to the development process of Vietnam and deepening the Vietnam-US relationshipin the future.

Kerryunderlined the significance of green and renewable energy development tosustainable socio-economic development in each country, affirming that he iswilling to support Vietnam in the field.-VNA
