SocTrang (VNA) - Deputy Prime MinisterTrinh Dinh Dung has urged the management board and contractors to accelerate theconstruction progress and ensure quality of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant.

During his field-trip to the project site in the Mekong deltaprovince of Soc Trang on March 24, Dung also requested the relevant parties toensure safety and security while executing the work and strictly implement thedesign and techniques.

Headof the management board Nguyen Doan Toan said the project is part of acooperation programme signed between the VietnamOil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and a joint venture between the Power Machinesand the Petroleum Technical Services Corporation(PTSC).

The management board is striving to put the first turbine ofthe plant into operation in late 2018 and the second turbine one year later,Toan said.

The Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant has a designed capacity of 1,200 MW. Itis part of the Long Phu Power Centre, which comprises three thermalpower plants with a combined capacity of 4,400 MW.

Once operational, the plant will contribute to ensuringnational energy security and economic restructuring in Soc Trang province andthe southwest region.-VNA
