Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh met with the Prime Ministerial Trade Envoy of the United Kingdom, Lord David Terence Puttnam, in London on September 9.

At the meeting, Deputy PM Ninh, who is on a working trip to Europe, said the establishment of the strategic partnership is the result of the effective cooperation between two countries and demonstrates their mutual trust.

Vietnam hopes to further boost ties with the UK in trade, investment, tourism, education, culture, finance and services, he said, while pledging to create preferential policies for British investors in Vietnam.

The Deputy PM particularly praised the UK’s education sector and asked the UK government to pay attention to cooperation with Vietnam in this field.

He also expressed hope that the “Vietnam Discovery Festival” to be held in London on September 12-13 will bring Vietnam’s landscapes and people closer to British people.

For his part, Puttnam said UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to Vietnam in July this year was very successful, but much work needs to be done to translate the visit’s outcomes into action.

The UK will work hard towards the goal of becoming one of the top 10 foreign investors in Vietnam in the next two years, he stressed.

The UK is the first stop of Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh’s trip to Europe from September 8-18.

After the UK, he will visit Switzerland, also with the aim of fostering cooperation between Vietnam and European countries and international organisations.-VNA
