Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Ministerof National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh hosted a reception forJapanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio in Hanoi on September 24.

At the reception, Vinh said that despite difficultiesbrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, leaders of the two countries’ defenceministries have maintained mutual exchanges through virtual communicationschannels to promote bilateral and multilateral defence cooperation activities.

The Defence Ministers of Vietnam and Japanheld online talks in July, while Vinh and then Japanese Deputy Minister ofDefence Nishida Yasunori held phone talks on June 10.

Vinh voiced his request that in the comingtime, the two sides will continue carrying out cooperation plan which waspreviously reached.  

He also asked the Japanese Ambassador tosupport Vietnam in successfully holding the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus(ADMM+) slated for December.

For his part, Ambassador Yamada pledged tofurther contribute to promoting and developing the Japan-Vietnam extensivestrategic partnership, including defence cooperation./.
