The health sector of the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, one of localities seeing a rise in recorded dengue cases, has tackled 426 hotbeds of the disease in accordance with directions from the Ministry of Health.
The locality had recorded 1,884 cases of dengue as of September 30, up 103.5 percent from the same period last year, said Tu Quoc Tuan, Director of the provincial Health Department.
Dengue has rapidly spread among nearly all districts and cities across the province. The four districts hardest hit by the disease have been Cho Moi (316 cases, including one death), Chau Phu (282 cases, including one death), Long Xuyen (268 cases) and Chau Thanh (208 cases).
Local authorities have arranged supervisions and conducted tests in An Phu and Cho Moi as the provincial Preventive Health Centre has carried out periodic examinations of insect species in Long Xuyen and Chau Thanh districts.
The locality ran campaigns to kill mosquito larva in April, June and August with 53.2 percent of communes in the province benefitting from each campaign.
As many as 340 local volunteers have joined relevant efforts in a bid to prevent disease outbreaks in the locality by raising public awareness of the danger of dengue and appropriate precautionary measures.
Local hospitals are also paying attention to preparing medicine supplies, relevant equipment and infrastructure facilities to swiftly meet the examination and treatment demand of dengue patients.
The provincial health sector will enhance disease prevention support, organise mosquito repellent spraying in high-risk areas and keep a close watch on the development of the disease in order to take appropriate measures to handle hotbeds of the disease.
The central province of Nghe An, which is facing a similar situation to An Giang, is also working hard to deal with dengue.
Dengue has become more complicated in Nghe An with nearly 80 locals suffering from the disease since the beginning of August. Hung Long commune in Hung Nguyen district has been hardest hit by the disease with 36 cases.
In response, the provincial Preventive Health Centre has set up inspecting teams to verify the situation in high-risk areas and carried out environmental sanitation and waste collection activities with the hope of preventing a possible outbreak of dengue fever.
The authorities of Hung Long commune were urged to focus on treating and strictly monitoring dengue patients.-VNA
