Defence industry asked to create exportable products

– The defense industryshould apply the latest scientific and technological advances to design andmanufacture competitive products that are eligible for export, said Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc.

While chairing a meeting of the state steering committee forbuilding and developing the defence-security industry in Hanoi on September 20,PM Phuc said developing the defence-security industry will become a heavier taskin the coming years given rapid changes in the region and the world as well asthe fourth industrial revolution.

Therefore, it is necessary to enhance thecapacity of research, designing, manufacturing, repairing, upgrading andmodernising weapons, technical equipment  and professional tools, in a bid to graduallymodernise the People’s Army and Public Security forces, he said.

The PM asked the steering committee, relevantministries and departments to promote their role, responsibility and coordinationto speed up the implementation of programmes and plans to fulfill targets inline with the Politburo’s direction on developing the defence-security industryin the new period.

At the meeting, PM Phuc also noted that theGovernment along with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of PublicSecurity has paid attention to stepping up the development of the defence-securityindustry over the past time.

The industry has successfully manufactured andrepaired new high-tech products, thus partly meeting the demand for weapons andtechnical equipment of the armed forces, reducing imports and saving the Statebudget, he added.-VNA
