Defence cooperation – a pillar in Vietnam-Cambodia ties

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of National Defence General Ngo Xuan Lichon February 19 had a meeting with his Cambodian counterpart General Tea Banh onthe sidelines of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Retreat (ADMM Retreat) inHanoi.

Both ministers expressed their delight over the fruitful traditionalfriendship, comprehensive cooperation between the two militaries, and the twocountries as a whole.

In the past years, bilateral defence cooperation hasserved as a pillar in the Vietnam-Cambodia ties, with regular exchanges ofdelegations at all levels, maintenance of cooperation mechanisms, as well ascollaboration in human resources training, border management and protection,and search and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers andexperts who laid down their lives during war time in Cambodia.

General Tea Banh, who is also Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, commendedVietnam’s preparation for the ADMM Retreat, and many other militaryconferences, believing that under the chair of Vietnam, such cooperationmechanisms as ADMM and ADMM Plus will continue to prove effective and play animportant role in the regional security architecture.

The two ministers agreed to direct competent agencies to effectively carry outthe inked cooperation deals, while enhancing communication to raise publicawareness of the traditional friendship between the two nations so as to thwartplots to divide the sound relations by hostile forces./.
