The plan aims to not only help improve education quality for Edeethnic pupils, but also preserve and develop the language and culture ofthe minority group.
The province started teachingEde language for the third to the fifth grades at schools in areasinhabited by Ede people from the 1980s and later at junior high schools.
In the 2009-2010 school year, the province had 11,969Ede pupils study at 487 classes in 88 schools.
The province has worked together with education institutions to compiletextbooks and syllabus for Ede language teaching at schools.
To overcome teacher shortage, the provincial People’s Council hasapproved a plan for teaching Ede language at primary and secondaryschools for the 2010-2015 period with focus on providing training forteachers./.
