Dak Lak (VNA) – More than 1,500 children in the Central Highlandsprovince of Dak Lak received free screening and consultation for congenitalheart diseases on April 19-21.
The programme was held by the province’s children protection fund incollaboration with Duc Tam Paediatrics Hospital and the general hospitals of EaH’Leo and Krong Bong districts.
According to director of Dak Lak children protection fund Lam Dinh Nhien, besidesscreening, the programme will provide free surgeries for children withcongenital heart diseases from poor families in mountainous, remote and ethnicareas, contributing to easing burden on their families.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee H’Yim Kdoh affirmed that themove is significant to quickly detect congenital heart disease and begin earlytreatment for local children.
She also called for sectors, branches, organisations and individuals to givemore support for children suffering from congenital heart defects to ensurethat they will have better lives.
Last year, 58 local children with congenital heart defects underwent surgerieswhich cost nearly 3 billion VND (129,000 USD), funded by the province’schildren protection fund and donors. -VNA
