DaNang (VNA) – Da Nang and the World Bank (WB) signed a memorandumof understanding on strategic connectivity in the 2019-2025 periodon September6 in the central city.
Thesigning ceremony drew WB Director in Vietnam Ousmane Dione, Chairman of the DaNang People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho, and leaders of local departments andagencies.
Addressingthe event, the WB Director said that the bank has started engaging in projectsin Da Nang since 1994 with 34 projects implemented so far.
Fundingpackages worth 500 million USD have been poured into infrastructure and socialsecurity projects in Da Nang, which will be continued in the future, he said.
After25 years of cooperation, the new signing is another evidence affirming thelong-term partnership between the two sides, he added.
Theofficial also pledged that the WB will continue accompanying with Da Nangduring its efforts to reach the world. The bank wishes to help turn Da Nanginto a typical city of the central region and Vietnam in general, he said.However, he urged the city to continue focusing on develop science-technology,education and invest more in the youth in order for sustainable growth in thefuture.
Chairmanof the municipal People’s Committee Tho highly valued thecooperation and support that the WB has given to Da Nang over the past 25years.
Thepartnership between the bank and the city has been broadened frominfrastructure to multi-sectoral approach, requiring stronger collaboration forhigher efficiency and sustainable development, he noted.
Thoexpressed his hope that the signed deals will be specified into actions to meetthe WB’s trust in the city.-VNA
