Mexico City (VNA) – A cultureweek celebrating the 50th founding anniversary of the Association ofSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) kicked off in Mexico on September 12.
The event was held by the Chamber ofDeputies of Mexico and Embassies of ASEAN members in the country, includingMalaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, VictorGiorgana, Head of the Chamber of Deputies' Committee for External Affairs,hailed the significance of the event in boosting the two sides’ relations.
Developing cooperation with ASEAN,especially in trade and investment, is part of Mexico’s market diversificationstrategy, he added.
At a workshop held as part of the event, ambassadorsof ASEAN member states briefed participants on the history of ASEAN, the ASEANCommunity, the ASEAN Economic Community, and the bloc’s development plans.
Vietnamese Ambassador Le Linh Lanhighlighted the central role of ASEAN in the regional architecture inmaintaining peace, stability, prosperity in Asia-Pacific.
The culture week also included artperformances, a cuisine festival and a photo exhibition.-VNA
