The visit will be made at the invitation of General Secretary of the CommunistParty of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong and PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The Vietnam-Cuba solidarity and fraternal relationship, which were fostered byPresidents Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro, have developed across spheres,becoming a valuable asset and a source of great encouragement for therevolutionary cause of each country.
Since the two countries set up diplomatic ties in December 1960, theirsolidarity, mutual support and comprehensive cooperation have beenstrengthened.
The bilateral political ties have been reflected through the regular exchangeof visits between the two countries’ Party, State and Government leaders. Apartfrom intensifying delegation exchange between agencies of the Parties,ministries, agencies and businesses, the two countries have regularly andeffectively implemented cooperation mechanisms.
At the same time, the two countries have cooperated and supported each other atinternational organisations and multilateral forums, particularly the UnitedNations.
Vietnam persistently backs Cuba’s request for the removal of the US’s embargoagainst the country and commits to supporting the country’s bid for a seat inthe UN Human Rights Council for 2021-2023.
Along with the political ties, Vietnam and Cuba have also paid heed to economicand trade bonds through a wide range of programmes and projects. In 2016, two-waytrade reached 235 million USD, while the figure rose to 224.3 million USD in2017. The two sides are striving to raise the bilateral trade to 500 millionUSD by 2020.
Earlier this year,Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong paid a state visit to the Caribbean country fromMarch 28-30 to consolidate mutual political trust and step up bilateralcooperation in economy, trade and investment in a more pragmatic and effectivemanner.-VNA
