Hanoi (VNA) - Wreaths were laid in front of Cuban national hero José Martí’sstatue in Hanoi’s Tao Dan Park on May 19 to commemorate his 125th death anniversary.
The ceremonywas held by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA), the Vietnam Unionof Friendship Organisations of Hanoi, and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam.
Addressingthe ceremony, VCFA Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Giang highlighted the revolutionaryhero’s contributions to Cuba’s struggle for independence in the late 19th century and the friendship between the two nations.
CubanAmbassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera recalled José Martí’s life and career and pointed outsimilarities between his and President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts in fighting fornational independence and freedom.
She hopedthat the younger generations of Vietnam and Cuba will continue preserving andstrengthening the special solidarity and faithful friendship between the two countries.
Cuba and Vietnam will hold a range of activities, including a photo exhibition, to celebrate the 60th anniversary ofdiplomatic ties this year, thus helping younger generations to better understand the traditional relationship, the ambassador added./.
