QuangNinh (VNA) – Cua Ong Temple Festival in the northern province ofQuang Ninh was one of 17 new items on the national intangible cultural heritagelist recognised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
CuaOng Temple is located nearby Bai Tu Long Bay, which is close to the WorldHeritage Ha Long Bay. The temple has three areas including Lower Temple, MiddleTemple and Upper Temple.
Itis dedicated to Tran Quoc Tang, a hero in the resistance war against Mongolinvaders under the Tran Dynasty in the 11th century.
TheCua Ong Temple festival is held to commemorate his contributions to defeatingthe aggressors and defending the Northeast region.
Thefestival is held from the second day of the first lunar month to the 30th day of the third lunar month. The main festival day is on the third and thefourth days of the second lunar month.
Thefestival includes rituals and processions.
Therecognised items include traditional festivals, rituals and customs,traditional handicrafts and folk performances.
Someof the other 16 heritages are Luu Xa communal house festival in Hoa Chinhcommune, Chuong My district, Hanoi; birthdaycelebration Hat khoan of the Nung ethnic group in Na Ri district, Bac Kanprovince; Bai Choi singing in Da Nang City; and traditional embroidering inDong Cuu, Dung Tien commune, Hanoi’s Thuong Tin district, among others.-VNA
