Hanoi (VNA) – The foreignministers of Kuwait and Maldives on October 20 sent their sympathies over the heavylosses caused by serious flooding and landslides in central Vietnam.
Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr AhmedNasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah and Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs AbdullaShahid cabled their sympathies to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of ForeignAffairs Pham Binh Minh.
Since October 6, central cities andprovinces from Nghe An to Quang Ngai have been struck by floods triggered bystorms and a cold wave.
Total rainfall has exceeded 1,000 mm andeven reached 2,000-2,500 mm in Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces,surpassing the record set in 1999.
As of 5 pm on October 20, the death tollreached 106 while 27 others were still missing, reported the Office of theSteering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control./.
