Cooperatives encouraged to take part in afforestation

Provinces and cities need to provide consultancy and assistance for cooperatives, cooperative groups and households to develop and manage forests effectively and sustainably in 2018

Hanoi (VNA) – In order to boost afforestation with the participation ofcooperatives, provinces and cities need to provide consultancy and assistancefor cooperatives, cooperative groups and households to develop and manageforests effectively and sustainably in 2018, said the Vietnam CooperativeAlliance (VCA).

Accordingto the VCA, 40 percent of the cooperatives, cooperative groups and householdsinvolved in the forestry sector are expected to have stable consumption marketsby 2020.

Around100 forestry cooperatives are set to meet criteria for sustainable forestmanagement.

Some1,200 cooperatives and cooperative groups will be introduced to the Law onForestry and the national standards of sustainable forest management and forestcertificates.

Between10 and 15 cooperatives and two cooperative alliances will be granted with groupforest certificates.    
 
Accordingto the VCA, there are some 7,300 forestry cooperatives and 15,000 cooperative groupsinvolved in forest across the country.-VNA
