Built in the form ofBOT ( build-operation-transfer) by two Chinese companies – the SouthernPower Grid Co. and Chinese International Power Co.Ltd.-, and the VietnamNational Coal – Mineral Industries Holding (Vinacomin) Group, the plantis due to be completed within 48 months at an estimated cost of morethan 1.75 billion USD.
After 25 years of commercial operation, the plant will be transferred to the Vietnamese Government.
According to Head of the MoIT’s general department of energy Dang HuyCuong, with an expected annual output of approximately 9.5 billion kWh,the Vinh Tan 1 coal-fired power plant will play an essential role inensuring electricity supply in southern Vietnam.
The plant is among major projects approved in the master plan for the national grid development through 2020.-VNA
