A ground-breaking ceremony for the project was attended by General Secretary ofthe Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State President Bounnhang Volachith,Chairwoman of the Lao NA Pany Yathotou, Chairwoman of the Vietnam NationalAssembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, among others.
Speakingat the event, Vice Chairman of the Lao NA Somphanh Phengkhammy said thebuilding received a funding of 100 million USD from Vietnam, committed byGeneral Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong during hisvisit in November 2016 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary ofthe bilateral diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of thesigning of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
Heexpressed his profound gratitude for the Vietnamese Party, State and people forthe gift to the Lao counterparts, believing that the new building, which lies across23,400 sq.m next to Thatluang, a sacred place symbolizing Laos’s solidarity, willbecome a symbol of friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the twoParties, States and peoples.
Vietnam’sDeputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said the groundbreaking ceremony willcontribute to the success of the Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam Year ofFriendship and Solidarity, during which, the two countries have chances toeducate Party members and people from walks of life, especially younggenerations, on the bilateral special solidarity.
Vietnamwill do its best with the highest political determination together with Laos tobuild the NA House imbued with Lao cultural identity for the sake of prosperitybetween the two nations and well-being of the two peoples, he said.
The Vietnamese guest vowed to direct the twocountries’ agencies to ensure that the building will be put into use by 2021when Laos’s special events are scheduled.-VNA
