The flag pole, which will be located in Trieu Duong hamlet, Tam Thanhcommune, is 22.6 metres in height and will be constructed withreinforced concrete.
The structure is estimated to cost 1.2 billion VND (55,000 USD) and is scheduled to be completed in July.
The pole is one of seven sovereignty flag towers to be built onoutpost islands from north to south by the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, theCentral Association of Vietnamese Students and the Bank for Investmentand Development of Vietnam (BIDV).
Phu Quy island district is approximately 104 kilometres from Phan Thiet city and has a population of 27,000.
Other islands to have flag towers built include Tran island in QuangNinh province, Bach Long Vi in Hai Phong city, Hon La in Quang Binh, CuLao Xanh in Binh Dinh, Con Son in Ba Ria Vung Tau and Tho Chu in KienGiang.-VNA
