Conference reviews 10-year building of defence zones

Hanoi (VNA) – TheCentral Military Commission (CMC) on March 19 held a teleconference to review 10years of implementing the 10th-tenure Politburo’s Resolution No. 28/NQ-TWon continue turning centrally-run cities and provinces into firm defence zonesin the new period.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc,head of the Central Steering Committee for Defence Zones attended the event,which was chaired by General Ngo Xuan Lich, member of the Politburo and DeputySecretary of the CMC and Minister of National Defence.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang,Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister ofNational Defence, said that over the past 10 years, the Resolution No. 28 hasbeen realised comprehensively with many documents issued to direct the buildingof defence zones.

The steering committees fordefence zones at different levels have been established and reinforced withincreasing efficiency, he said.

Along with the building of pilotmodels, arising problems during the operation of defence zones have beensettled timely, while communications have been increased to raise publicawareness of defence zones and national defence.

The mechanisms to direct the constructionand operation of defence zones have been completed, with focus on building strengthsin politics, socio-economy, science-technology, and defence-security, saidGiang.

Participants at 106 teleconferencingpoints nationwide disucessed solutions to continue making centrally-run citiesand provinces into steady defence zones in the coming time.

Addressing the event, PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recognized efforts of the CMC, the Ministry ofNational Defence as well as ministries, sectors and localities in implementing theResolution No. 28.

He noted that the operationmechanisms of defence zones have proved to be effective, while the publicawareness has been improved, the combat readiness of the armed forcea has beenenhanced, and national independence, sovereignty and integrity have beenensured, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for nationaldevelopment.

The PM said that the building offirm defence zones is an active national safeguarding strategy by mobilisingthe power of the whole nation since the peaceful period.

He stressed the need to continuecompleting the Party’s policies as well as the State’s management over thebuilding of defence zones and suggested a number of measures to enhance theefficiency of the implementation of the resolution in the future.

At the event, the CMC and theMinistry of National Defence announced decisions to present the PM’scertificates of merit to 16 collectives and the Defence Minister’s certificatesof merit to 19 other collectives with outstanding performance in the buildingof defence zones in centrally-run cities and provinces in the 2008-2018period.-VNA
