Binh Phuoc (VNA) – Advanced technology application is put at thefirst line of solutions to improving the quality of cashew processing, heard aconference held in the southern province of Binh Phuoc on December 14.
Attending the event, Do Thi Minh Tram, Deputy Director of the Agency forRegional Industry Development under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, saidthat Binh Phuoc, dubbed as the country’s cashew capital, should pay specialattention to ensuring cashew farming issustainable and stable.
Improving management capacity and human resources quality together withdiversifying cashew products, and applying clean production technology shouldhelp reduce processing costs, she suggested.
According to Vu Duy Khien, director of the provincial industrial promotion anddevelopment consulting centre, the province is housing more than 134,000hectares planted with cashew, which generate an average output of nearly150,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, accounting for nearly 50 percent of thecountry’s total areas and productivity.
There are some 200 companies and 400 household businesses joining in cashewprocessing. Meanwhile, around 31 local cashew exporters have shipped 81,000 tonnesof cashews abroad at a value of over 807 million USD.
In the past time, the province has splashed out over 11 billion VND (473,500USD) to support 63 production facilities and businesses in building cashewhigh-tech processing models, he added.-VNA
