Conference discusses Vietnam-Mexico cooperation outlook

The Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico and the International Studies Faculty of the Mexico Institute of Autonomous Technology jointly held a conference on the Vietnam-Mexico relations to discuss the outlook of cooperation between the two countries.

Mexico City (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico and the International StudiesFaculty of the Mexico Institute of Autonomous Technology jointly held aconference on the Vietnam-Mexico relations to discuss the outlook ofcooperation between the two countries.

Addressing the event,Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Hoai Duong said that since the twocountries set up their diplomatic relations 43 years ago, the bilateral relationshiphas grown strongly in all fields such as politics, economy, trade, culture,education, health care and tourism.

Mexico is now thethird largest trade partner of Vietnam in Latin America, while Vietnam is theeighth biggest market of Mexico in Asia.

Two-way trade reachednearly 5 billion USD in 2017 and hit 3 billion USD in the first eight months of2018, noted the diplomat.

He held that theVietnamese and Mexican economies can supplement each other, adding that theComprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)will contribute to creating a favourable environment for the promotion ofeconomic, trade and investment partnership between Vietnam and Mexico.

Ambassador Duong saidthat through 40 years of national construction, from a war-torn country,Vietnam is now on the way to industrialization and modernisation with a rising positionin the world arena.

So far, Vietnam hasset up diplomatic relations with 180 countries and trade partnership withnearly 200 economies in the world, he said.

Vietnam consistentlypursues the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness,diversification, multilateralisation and active international integration, hesaid.

The ambassador affirmedthat in the past two decades, Vietnam has made important contributions to thegrowth of the ASEAN, adding that the country is working with other members ofthe association to build the ASEAN Community Vision with an aim to fosteringintra-bloc connectivity through integration and dialogues.

Participants expressedhope that more similar conferences will be held for them to explore theculture, country and people of Vietnam.-VNA
