Hanoi (VNA) - Acold wave which hit the northern region on January 28 has lowered temperaturesin the northern and northern central localities down to around 10 degreesCelsius. The cold snap is expected to last for the next 10 days.
According to the NationalCentre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold spell is predictedto bring rain and even frost to the northern mountainous area.
The temperature of thenorthern delta region will hover between 11 and 14 degrees Celsius. Mountainousareas will be eight to 11 degrees Celsius, and in some places even as low asnegative five degrees Celsius.
Hanoi is predicted to becold and have scattered rainfall this week.
The central provinces andcities have also been affected by the cold snap. Rainfall is forecasted fromThanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue provinces.
Hoang Phuc Lam, head of thecentre’s long-term weather forecasting division, said that cold spells areforecasted in late January and early February in the north.
In February, the northernregion will brace for four to five cold snaps. In the middle of February,coinciding with the Lunar New Year holidays, the cold snap will cause lightrain.-VNA
