Hanoi (VNA) – The fifth export fair of Zhejiang, one of the most prosperous provinces in China, kicked off in Hanoi on August 4.

The event is being held by the Vietnam National Trade Fair and Advertising Company (Vinexad) under the theme: “Zhejiang Products – Global Outreach”.

Nearly 100 businesses from the Chinese province, which represent the “Zhejiang Made” symbol, are displaying their products which are popular in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, such as machinery, metals, apparel materials and fine arts handicrafts.

Deputy director of the Asia-Pacific Market Department To Ngoc Son said bilateral trade between Vietnam and China records an annual average growth of 20 percent.

China was the biggest trade partner of Vietnam in 2015 with an import-export turnover of over 66.6 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 13.4 percent, he cited, adding that Vietnam is also one of the largest trade partners of China in ASEAN.

According to China’s General Administration of Customs, trade between Vietnam and Zhejiang topped 5.52 billion USD in 2015, a yearly rise of 14.3 percent.

Son proposed authorities from the Chinese province increase support for businesses of the two sides to take part in trade fairs and exhibitions in their respective countries, while enhancing imports of agro-forestry-fisheries products.

He also suggested establishing a Vietnamese representative office in Zhejiang to promote bilateral trade cooperation, and continuously implemente the Memorandum of Understanding on building a periodical information provision and exchange mechanism between the Asia-Pacific Market Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Chinese province.

Director of the trade and economic bureau under the Zhejiang Department of Commerce Feng Wei said the department carried out a project to bring local high-quality products to the world to enhance cooperation with ASEAN member countries, including Vietnam.

The 2016 Zhejiang Export Fair, which will run until August 6, houses 150 booths featuring machinery, electronic equipment, construction materials, interior decoration, metals, garments and textiles, and consumer products.-VNA
