Hanoi (VNA) – China has proposedbuilding an economic corridor with Myanmar to further enhance the bilateralcomprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi was speaking ata joint press conference with Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi aftertheir fresh talks in Myanmar on November 19.
The two sides pledged to promote bilateralrelations and deepen pragmatic cooperation.
Wang said the economic corridor, inconsideration of Myanmar’s national development plan and actual needs, willstart from China’s Yunnan province and connect with Mandalay city in thecentral region of Myanmar, and further extend to the new city of Yangon and thespecial economic zone of Kyaukpyu, forming a three-pillar cooperation pattern.
Such a design is supposed to boost connectivity amonglarge projects along the routes and at the same time fuel development inMyanmar, he added.
Aung San Suu Kyi said the proposal is suitablewith Myanmar’s national development plan and hoped the two sides will cooperatein the priority fields in Myanmar, including transportation andelectricity.-VNA
