Phnom Penh (VNA) – China has extended 140 million USD worth of grant aid onCambodia’s urgent development projects, freshnewsasia.com cited a Facebook post of Cambodian Deputy PrimeMinister Hor Namhong as saying.
Hor Namhong,who is also Co-chair of the Cambodia-ChinaIntergovernmental Coordination Committee, hosted a reception for visiting ChineseState Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi at Sofitel Hotel PhnomPenh on October 11 evening during which the Chinese side announced the aid toimplement Cambodia’s top priority projects in 2020.
The two sideswill sign agreements on establishing undersea fiber-optic communications cableconnecting the southern Cambodian city of Sihanoukville and China’s Hong Kong;constructing national road 71C; rural power transmission line phase VII; riceproductions and exports project.
The projectsthat are being prepared include building irrigation and flood protection systemof Stung Prek Tnoat; expanding and upgrading national road 41, 33 and 31.
According toDeputy PM Hor Namhong, Cambodia has requested China to solve the remainingissues so that Cambodia could export 400,000 tonnes of rice to China.
During thefirst half of 2020, Cambodia exported almost 150,000 tonnes of rice to China, saidCambodia Rice Federation President Song Saran.
The Chineseside also agreed to import more of Cambodia’s agricultural products, includingbanana, mango, cassava, cashew nut, pepper, durian, sugar, and longan.
Minister WangYi is currently on the Southeast Asia tour of Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, and Thailand from October 11-15./.
