Speakingafter the signing ceremony on July 4 in Phnom Penh, Chinese Vice Minister ofEcology and Environment Zhao Yingmin said China has been paying particularattention to the issues of environmental protection and ecosystem conservation,and that the MoUs opened a new chapter for bilateral cooperation in thesefields.
Thisis a good, fresh start for the bilateral cooperation in environment andecology, he said. He also expressed his belief that through the two countries’concerted efforts, this cooperation will be further strengthened and expanded.
CambodianEnvironment Minister Say Samal, for his part, said the MoUs will provide Cambodiawith a greater opportunity to protect its environment and ecology.
Later,Zhao and Samal jointly unveiled the Cambodia-China Environmental Cooperation CentrePreparatory Office, which is situated in the Cambodian Ministry of Environment.
InMarch, Cambodia inaugurated its first water quality monitoring station fundedby China near the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers in Phnom Penh.–VNA
