Can Tho (VNA) - The organisers of a ten-day relay race,aiming to raise funds for COVID-19-affected workers, has agreed to set aside about1 billion VND (43,000 USD) to support flood victims in the central region.
Co-organised by the Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corp. (Sabeco) and theVietnam General Confederation of Labour, the race, which ended on October 26, covered2,020 km, from the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long city to the MekongDelta city of Can Tho.
It has so far raised over 4.78 billion VND from 2,530 donations.
As of the evening of October 24, heavy rains and floods in the centraland north-central regions had claimed 119 lives and left 21 missing, with theregions now preparing for Storm Molave to make landfall within the next fewhours.
The eye of the powerful storm, the ninth of the year and the fourth thismonth, is expected to be over Vietnam’s coastline, from Da Nang city to Phu Yenprovince, at 4 am on October 28, with maximum winds of 165 km/h. Torrentialdownpours will blanket central localities from October 27 to 29, with floodingforecast in areas from Thua Thien-Hue to Quang Ngai./.
