Chairman of Cambodia’s SRP party faces trial

Sam Rainsy, Chairman of the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), will go to trial on April 20 on charges of publishing inaccurate information and fake maps falsely alleging that Vietnam encroached on Cambodia ’s Svay Rieng province during the border demarcation process.

Choung Choungy, Sam Rainsy’s lawyer, confirmed that he had received asummons issued by the Phnom Penh City Court on April 3 and that he wouldact on Sam Rainsy’s behalf as Rainsy is abroad at that time.

If found guilty of both charges Rainsy could face up to 18 years inprison.

Earlier, in late January, Rainsy was sentenced by the Svay Riengprovincial court on charges of sabotaging public property and ignitingracial discrimination./.

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
