Of 2.7 million recipients of monthlysubsidy, nearly 900,000 suffer severe or extremely severe disabilities andhundreds of thousands of others undergo rehabilitation and are equipped withwheelchairs and pushchairs.
All centrally-run cities andprovinces have built networks of rehabilitation centres. Disabled children havebeen given access to schooling while more people living with disabilities have landedjobs.
The committee will continue workingwith relevant ministries and agencies to refine policies on the disabled, amendand supplement regulations on the handicapped, especially in vocationaltraining, employment, education and health care.
United Nations Resident Coordinator YoussoufAbdel-Jelil hailed the Vietnamese government for improving the lives of thedisabled, with the establishment of the committee which regulates its role andfunction to help the disabled fully join the socio-cultural and economic lives.
The UN stands ready to assist Vietnamin several fields and will continue playing its role as an important partner toreally empower the Vietnamese disabled, he said.
On the occasion, a music show, thefifth of its kind hosted by the VBA, opened, giving a chance for the blind nationwideto stay optimistic and integrate into the community./.
