Bangkok (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, on December22 to celebrate the 60th year since the Vietnamese Memorial ClockTower was built by Vietnamese people living here before they returned toVietnam.

Speakingat the event, Chairman of the Thai-Vietnamese Association in Nakhon Phanom TranVan Sau briefed about the history of the Vietnamese Memorial Clock Tower whichwas built by the community of Vietnamese expats in the province in 1960 as agift to show their gratitude towards the Thai King and Government whowelcomed them with great hospitality at the time of hardship.

Governor of NakhonPhanom province Kayson Kongsalat expressed his honour to be invited to theevent, saying Nakhon Phanom is a province with cultural diversity where manyethnic minority groups live peacefully together. The building of the clock toweris meaningful to the solidarity between Vietnamese and Thai peoples, he said,adding that the event not only provides a good opportunity to remind people ofthe past but also demonstrates a strong relationship between the two countriesas neighbours and strategic partners.

Ambassadorof Vietnam to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh, meanwhile, said the clock tower holdsboth historic and cultural meaning. It also helps strengthen the mutualunderstanding and friendship between the two peoples, he noted.

Thanhexpected that the Vietnamese people in Nakhon Phanom and all over Thailand atlarge will always remember the warm welcome of the Thai government and peopleover the past years and together further deepen the strategic partnershipbetween the two countries./.
