Illustrative image (Source: Internet)The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum has earmarked over 53 billion VND (nearly 2.4 million USD) for building and upgrading health care facilities, aiming to improve medical services for its residents, especially those in remote and disadvantaged areas.
As many as 19 health care facilities in Kon Tum city and the districts of H’Drai, Tu Mo Rong, Sa Thay, Dak Ha, Ngoc Hoi, Kon Ray, Kon Plong, Dak Glei, Dak To, have been invested for better services.
Medical workers at various levels have been retrained constantly.
All-level medical establishments, with a total capacity of 1,820 beds, are attended by the staff of 1,696, help meet the growing demand of locals as well as those coming from neighbouring Lao and Cambodian localities.
In April this year, The Health Department launched a methadone treatment centre for drug addicts in Ngo May ward of Kon Tum city.
The centre provides methadone treatment for about 100 drug users this year.
In August, the province launched the second phase of the Central Highlands public healthcare project in 2015.
The second phase, between 2014 and 2019, has at a total cost of 76.6 million USD, including a 70-million-USD loan from the Asia Development Bank (ADB).
The project aims to develop health care networks in the province, increase access for local residents - especially impoverished households and ethnic minority groups -to health care services and develop local medical human resources.
It also encompasses upgrading health care facilities and developing medical records and information management systems for health care establishments at all levels.-VNA
