Ottawa (VNA) – The Canada – Vietnam Society (CVS) was launched at a ceremony in the Canadian capital of Ottawa.
The event featured more than 100 overseas Vietnamese people and representatives from Vietnam’s diplomatic representative offices in Canada.
Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada To Anh Dung said the CVS is expected to contribute to developing the friendship between the two nations.
Nguyen Dai Trang, one of the three founders of the association said the CVS aims to connect among overseas Vietnamese people in Canada and with Canadians, particularly in culture, education and trade.
Nguyen Thai Linh, a member of the Vietnamese Student Association in Canada expressed her hope that the CVS will help build a strong and united Vietnamese community in the country.
The 250,000 people strong overseas Vietnamese community contributes significantly to Canada. They also serve as the bridge connecting the two nations.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese Ambassador presented a bronze drum to the CVS management board.-VNA
